Samplings on the 14th - Provides a Real (and often Star-Studded) Audience for Students at Berjaya University College of Hospitality |
Berjaya University College of Hospitality this month again played host to another star on the celebrity chef TV scene. Invited guests not only delighted in a taste of the cuisine of a luminary in the kitchen, but too supported some of Malaysia’s up and coming cooking talents.
Berjaya University College of Hospitality is quickly establishing itself as one of the leading education institutions in Kuala Lumpur: especially when it comes to the food and beverage industry. With a strong commitment towards professional excellence, Berjaya UCH focuses on “human development” and attention to detail in teaching and learning. As such, the institute highly values an “immersion” approach in their pedagogy.

This “learning by doing” principle sees students participate in an “industry-based” curriculum delivered both inside and outside the classroom. One of the features of this methodology is the regular invitation of industry experts from the hospitality, tourism, culinary and services fields to contribute their knowledge and experience with students both in a classroom setting, but also in real-life assignments. Celebrity chefs conduct cooking demonstrations for students behind the scenes, but students are also given the opportunity to cook alongside these food icons and to provide service to invited guests.

The goal is to better prepare students for the real world before exiting the program. With this type of training, the certified from Berjaya University College of Hospitality, should leave the institute able to apply their knowledge and skills in real-life situations. They should be able to “think critically, communicate effectively, work productively and manage professionally” from the moment they begin.

Hands-On Lessons in the Kitchen |
This round saw Asian Food Channel star, chef Tareq Taylor of Tareq Taylor’s Nordic Cookery, share his passion for wild natural ingredients and simple cooking technique not only with students of Berjaya University College of Hospitality, but too with some very fortunate guests. This TV personality lead the team to prepare a four course menu for invited guests, not only broadening the skills of the students but inspiring the minds and taste buds of lucky diners.
While, dear readers, you are accustomed to lengthy descriptions of each dish in our regular write-ups, this is merely a photo memory of what we dined on. We don’t want to make you too envious of something that you can’t go out and order for yourselves – but if you watch Tareq Taylor’s Nordic Cookery on the Asian Food Channel, (or befriend one of Berjaya UCH students ) you might just learn to make some of these dishes for yourself at home. ;-)
