Cloudy Bar Pinot Noir and Duck Trail, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

This April and May, Cloudy Bay encourages you to embark on a culinary caper through ten of Kuala Lumpur’s most distinctive restaurants, pairing the delicious notes of Pinot Noir wine with duck dishes created by some of the top chefs in the city.  Described as a chance to experience your “own urban duck season,” food and wine lovers are coaxed to follow the Cloudy Bay Pinot and Duck tasting trail from one restaurant to the next.

Well known for its Sauvignon Blanc, Cloudy Bay introduces a wine set to soon become a new favourite to the KL market. Their 2011 Pinot Noir has a gentle floral bouquet with whiffs of wildflower sending your imagination to thyme-covered fields in spring. Berries, herbs and spices on the palate with hints of forest mushroom make it an ideal pairing for smoked duck, grilled portabello mushrooms or a rack of venison.

Choosing Cantaloupe, Troika Sky Dining as the location to begin our adventure has set high standards for the rest of the track.  Chef Eddie’s innovation sees succulent duck breast, marinated with orange and juniper, sliced to form a fan of pink flesh. Smoked duck quinoa, stewed Brussels sprouts and a spiced cranberry sauce add texture, colour and complementary flavours to the plate. Paired with a glass of Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir this combo will set you back RM130++.

The Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir Duck Trail map is available at both leading wine retailers and the nine participating restaurants. This pairing at Cantaloupe entitled me to one stamp on my map. I can earn two more with every purchase of Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir 2011 at participating retailers. With four stamps I’m entitled to a glass of the wine at one of the nine involved restaurants and too, go in the draw to wine RM3000 worth of Cloudy Bay wines.
