Huckleberry Food and Fare
Arriving at Huckleberry Food & Fare at Plaza Damansara, we could tell that the food was going to be good by the short queue of people waiting to be seated in the packed restaurant even at 4pm in the afternoon. This stylish café has a very smart interior design that immediately draws in customers to explore the menu in the cosy atmosphere. The duck egg blue panelling on the front of the counter softens the dark wooden rustic boards on the walls and the brown leather sofas. And the decorative floor tiles and the gold ‘H’ logo on the counter give this café a touch of class.
So what was the food like? We started off with a couple of pastries which were light, fluffy and all made in house. We were told that the Pain au Chocolat had a special Valrhona chocolate flown in to fill this pastry and the butter used was also from France. It was easy to tell by the taste that the owners care about making their products stand out from the rest.

Feeling thirsty, we then had the Carrot Ginger Zinger (RM11.90) which is a cold-pressed juice of ginger, carrot, red apple and lemon. The strong ginger kick and zesty lemon matched well with the smoothness of the carrot and apple. It certainly perked me up!

Another drink on the menu is the Very Berry Acai Smoothie (RM18.90). This could be had on its own as a light breakfast as it was so rich and filling. The smoothie had a light tartness and tang to it and is perfect for Malaysia’s hot weather.

The Huckleberry Granola (RM17.90) came next and the presentation alone made us feel hungry. Served in a jar deep with creamy Farmer’s Union greek yoghurt, fresh fruit and raw organic honey, this was truly delicious. The granola is house baked with coconut oil and honey, making this one of my favourite dishes.

The Superfood Salad (RM25.90) is a must for salad lovers. Packed with fresh greens, broccoli, mixed nuts, quinoa, petit pois, mango, avocado and pomegranate, this salad felt so good to eat – both nutritious and really tasty.

Next up was one of Huckleberry’s speciality sandwiches, the Artichoke Spinach Dip (RM19.90). We could tell when it arrived at the table that it was going to be good – the homemade bread looked crisp and golden, and the artichoke and spinach dip oozed out of the sides. It was love at first bite with the melty richness of the filling and the crispiness of the toasted bread. The strong flavour of the Parmesan and the light tang of the artichoke are the perfect combination.

The Banana French Toast (RM24.90) comprised of thick slices of brioche bread dipped in a rich vanilla custard and topped with caramelised bananas. The scent of cinnamon and nutmeg excited our taste buds as it arrived at the table. This dish was fluffy and custardy, and not overly sweet either.

The Duck Bacon and Egg Pasta (RM25.90) came with a runny poached egg on top and a spattering of fresh herbs. The pasta was nicely al dente and there was a light kick of dried chilli that left the tongue tingling. The smoked duck bacon is also made in-house, which makes this dish special with its aromatic and tender flavours.

After enjoying some great dishes and drinks, we thought at this stage that the desserts were going to be good, and we weren’t wrong! The Black Forest Gateau (RM16.90) looked dense and heavy, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. This cake was light and moist, with layers of cream and fruit soaked cherries, making us go back for more.

The Chocolate Royale (RM14.90) was heavenly. The base was thin and crispy and the dark chocolate mousse filling was rich and light. This is definitely one to try out. All of the desserts are alcohol free.
